The top spot in the heart of Carleton Parish’71 goes unequivocallyto his late wife Sharon. After herfirmholdon the position,two passions run neck and neck:baseballand Plymouth State University. “PSU gave me the polish I didn’t have. My professors completed me as a gentleman,” saysParish,a retired physical security specialistwith theUS Marshal Service. “The Universityiswhere I learned for the first time in my life.”
In close contention for his affectionswith PSUare the Red Sox. Hegets to indulgebothpassions––the game and the University––during spring training at Fort Myers, where helives and both the Sox and Pantherstrain.“Some of PSU’s players can’t afford to go to FortMyers. But if you’re ateam, you needto be a team,”saysParish, explaining why he supportsthePanthers’annual training trip to Florida.
Parish’sphilanthropygoes well beyond the diamonds.He hasmade a sizeable bequestto PSU––“You never see a U-Haul at a funeral procession,”hejokes––created two endowed scholarships;made a major capital gifttotheALLWellNorthbuilding,contributed to theFund for Plymouth State;and supportednumerous projects and students in need.“Likemy beloved wife of 36 years,” he says, “Iwant to pay it forward.”
